Things to do in Blueys Beach

Blueys Beach and nearby Boomerang and Elizabeth Beaches are perfect for swimming all year round. Wallis and Smiths Lake are also great spots for a dip, as are Seven Mile Beach and Celito Beach. There is even a clothes optional beach at Shelley Beach. Surfers flock to the breaks at the northern and southern ends of Blueys Beach and the same applies to Boomerang Beach which provides the most regular swell in the area. Wallis and Smiths Lake are perfect for dropping a line in and the many lakeside reserves offer scenic spots for picnics. Booti Booti National Park and Wallingat National Park contain stunning coastal vegetation and many trails and lookouts with views over the coast and lakes.

History of Blueys Beach

The coast around Blueys Beach was mapped by various European explorers but it was not until 1854 that the area was settled by those working in the logging, fishing and agricultural sectors. The sand mining industry provided substantial employment in the region for a number of decades, but it was the tourism industry that began to take hold in the 1950's and 1960's, that today is the largest industry of the town and surrounding area.

The golden sands of Blueys Beach have been drawing visitors for years. The beach is the jewel in the crown of Pacific Palms and along with Boomerang Beach, Elizabeth Beach and Seven Mile Beach, make up a stunning stretch of coast that lures surfers, swimmers and sun seekers all year round. Wallis Lake sitting to the west of Blueys Beach is also a stunning landmark. Ideal for boating, fishing and swimming, the lake is an unspoilt oasis perfect for relaxation.

Shopping in Blueys Beach

There is a small shopping strip at Blueys Beach for everyday needs. More serious provisions can be obtained at Forster Shopping Village which has a Coles and Woolworths supermarket and a number of speciality shops. There are markets held on the last Sunday of each month at the Community Centre in Pacific Palms. There are also good markets in Forster, Tuncurry and Hallidays Point.

Restaurants & Cafes in Blueys Beach

The Pacific Palms Recreation Club and the Smiths Lake Bowling Club provide hearty, inexpensive fare. There is also a good selection of takeaway and cafe style eateries in Blueys Beach. Nearby Forster and Tuncurry have a great selection of restaurants including Italian, French, Chinese and Modern Australian. A must for visitors to the area is to sample some of the local seafood, whether it is fresh fish from the ocean or prawns and oysters from Wallis Lake. The fish co-op in Tuncurry teems with locally caught seafood.

Sports & Fitness in Blueys Beach

Blueys Beach's main sporting activities revolve around the water. The area is a surfing mecca with Blueys Beach itself a popular surf break. There are a number of other excellent surf breaks at Boomerang Beach, Seven Mile Beach and Sandbar. Elizabeth Beach and Shelley Beach are popular with families as they offer calmer conditions. Nearby Wallis Lake is a paradise for anglers and boating enthusiasts with a myriad of islands and bays to explore. Booti Booti National Park which hugs the coastline and lakefront offers stunning bushwalks and lookouts. Pacific Palms also contains tennis courts and bowling clubs and there are excellent golf courses in Forster and Tuncurry.

Transport in Blueys Beach

Great Lakes Coaches has direct daily services from Forster-Tuncurry to Sydney stopping in Blueys Beach. Countrylink coach services connect Blueys Beach with Newcastle and XPT services to Sydney. Blueys Beach is a three hour drive from Sydney along the F3 and Pacific Highway and the town is a two hour drive from Newcastle and Williamtown Airport.

Blueys Beach is 280 kilometres from Sydney and 135 kilometres from Newcastle. The twin towns of Forster and Tuncurry are 22 kilometres and a twenty minute drive from Blueys Beach.
