Things to do in Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains region is truly a nature lover's paradise with an abundance of animal and plant life to be found in the region. The Blue Mountains is a World Heritage Listed National Park and it consists of eight individual conservation reserves. Katoomba is the largest town in the Blue Mountains. Echo Point which is located in Katoomba offers spectacular views of the Three Sisters and the Jamison Valley. History of Blue Mountains

In 1788 the Blue Mountains were first christened ?Carmathen Hills? and ?Landsdowne Hills? by Governor Phillip. But soon after this time, the constant blue haze around the mountains led the name to be changed to the ?Blue Mountains?. In 1813, Lawson, Wentworth and Blaxland were the first explorers to cross the Blue Mountains, and you will find towns and landmarks in the area named after them. Since the 19th Century the Blue Mountains has prospered and become one of the most popular tourist destinations in NSW, for both locals seeking a weekend retreat and international visitors wanting to experience Australia?s best views.
