History of Gloucester
Prior to European settlement, the area around Gloucester was inhabited by the Kattang Aborigines. In 1831, Robert Dawson, the first manager of the Australian Agricultural Commission, established an outstation called Gloucester. It was named after the English county of Gloucestershire, which Dawson thought had a similar terrain.
