Things to do in Burleigh Heads
If you are feeling energetic, a brisk walk up to any of Burleigh Heads? magnificent vantage points will offer a view of the surf splashing against the Queensland coastline. There are also several easier walking tracks in the National Park ?some tracks lead you around the coast while others take you into the heart of the rainforest.
Burleigh Heads has a lively restaurant scene, with views overlooking the stunning beach. There are many different shopping precincts to visit both within and surrounding the township of Burleigh Heads.
History of Burleigh Heads
In the later years of the 19th Century, bathing became a popular pastime among new settlers and many guesthouses and restaurants were built in Burleigh Heads in order to accommodate for visitors. The Burleigh township has remained a centre for beach activity.
Landmark in Burleigh Heads
The headlands of Burleigh Head National Park are a prominent Gold Coast landmark. The Park encompasses a diverse range of landscapes including rainforests, eucalypt forests, tussock grassland, coastal heath, mangroves, creeks, rocky foreshore and beaches.
Shopping in Burleigh Heads
There is a shopping centre towards the southern end of the beach ? where you will be able to purchase all your basic vacation needs. The closest large supermarkets are located at Stocklands Shopping Centre on West Burleigh Road. This Centre has Coles, Woolworths and IGA.
For serious boutique shopping head to Surfers Paradise and explore Cahill, Orchard and Elkhorn Avenues. There are craft markets on Friday nights along the beach esplanade. One of Queensland?s largest shopping complexes is Pacific Fair, located behind Broadbeach, around 15km from Burleigh Heads.

Down the beautiful south end of the beach there are three fine dining restaurants to choose from including the acclaimed Oskars and Seafire. Stroll across the road and you will encounter some more casual eating options including a modern Australian cafe, Mexican restaurant and Asian diner. The other side of Burleigh Heads offers a handful of additional cafes and bars ? a great choice for breakfast by the sea or an after dinner drink.
Nobby Beach is a good alternative for a larger choice of casual eating spots. Main Beach on the Marina Mirage is an up and coming spot for stylish seaside dining.

There are fitness centres and gyms located in Mermaid Beach, Robina and Coolangatta, but Burleigh Heads has its own Health Centre and personal training facilities. Transport in Burleigh Heads
If driving from Brisbane, take the Pacific Motorway and turn off at Exit 89. The nearest airport is the Gold Coast Airport in Coolangatta (13km away) and there are frequent shuttle buses which run to and from Burleigh Heads.
Surfside Buslines provide transport from the northern suburbs of NSW, with connections to various Gold Coast suburbs being offered at major interchanges. Once you arrive in Burleigh Heads, local bus routes service all the major beaches and suburbs in the area. Nerang and Robina are the nearest towns accessible by train from Brisbane.
