Things to do in Brisbane

The Brisbane Botanic Gardens is a very popular place to unwind, go for a jog, cycle or even catch a glimpse of the many possums which live in the lush gardens or take a ferry tour along the Brisbane River to catch a glimpse of the city. Brisbanes South Bank Parklands feature 17 hectares of lush gardens and lawns and is home to the Streets Beach, which is a unique, man-made swimming beach and overlooks the Brisbane River and Central Business District.

History of Brisbane

In 1859 Brisbane was separated from New South Wales and Queensland was proclaimed a new colony. Since 1901, Queensland has been a state of the Commonwealth of Australia.

Landmark in Brisbane

Waterfront Place is the second tallest building in Brisbane and stands at 162m high and is one of the most recognizable towers in Brisbane. The Brisbane River offers a picturesque view of the city at water level. The Gateway Bridge, which is the centre of the Gateway Motorway, skirts the eastern suburbs of Brisbane. The Skyneedle was originally built for the World Expo '88 which was held in Brisbane and stands 88m from the ground.

Brisbane has a wide selection of shopping areas and one in particular is the fashionable Queen Street Mall, where you will find a wide range of specialty stores catering from souvenir shops to the larger centres like the Myer Centre which houses around 200 shopping boutiques, as well as a large international food court.
