History of Cape Tribulation
The Cow Bay / Cape Tribulation area was first settled in the early 1880s and it was a farming and Cattle Fattening area.
The Chinese grew dry Rice and Maize and Sugar Cane.
In 1929 a local Family tried to grow Bananas and Tropical Fruit on a large scale but it was not successful, Pineapples were tried in the 1950s all to avail. In the 1950s Timber and Cattle Fattening became the main industries in the local area.
The area north of the Daintree River has slowly been developed with settlement in the years after. In 1988 some of the Daintree Coast land was World Heritage listed.
