Currumbin hosts two unique annual events. The first is the Swell Sculpture Festival where sculptures are displayed along the oceanway between Elephant Rock and Currumbin Creek. The Currumbin In the Bin film festival is often held concurrently in the car park opposite the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. A visit to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a must as it offers a peek at one of the largest collections of Australian native species in the world.

History of Currumbin
There are three theories about the origins of the suburb name ?Currumbin?. It has been thought of as meaning ?place where high trees grow? and, as deriving from the native Aboriginal word for kangaroo, ?kurrohmin?. The third idea is that ?Currumbin? means ?quicksand?. The first European settlement at Currumbin was in the early part of the 20th Century after the Nerang to Tweed Heads rail line provided better access to the area.

The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has become a Gold Coast icon. It is known for the huge flocks of wild Rainbow Lorikeets which come to the Sanctuary to feed on a particular mixture of bird food. The Sanctuary boasts the largest walk through aviary in the southern hemisphere.

There is also a train service to Currumbin from Brisbane Airport.
