History of Kewarra Beach
The Area was originally settled by the Aboriginal Tribe, the Irukanji.
On June 10 1770,( Trinity Sunday), Captain James Cook named the site of future Cairns City Trinity Bay
In 1873 the discovery of gold in the Palmer River Area and then later, even better gold fields at the Hodgkinson River resulted in a major influx of non-indigenous people.
Eventually, housing needs saw the establishment of a Saw Mill and then Agriculture expanded thanks to the Chinese with crops like rice, corn, bananas and pineapples.
The end of WW2 saw an influx of Italian migrants.
Now Sugar Cane fields stretch for miles and the population is large and varied with Tourism providing much employment in the Region.
Cairns Now boasts an International Airport and many fine buildings, hotels, shopping centres and tourist attractions.
