There are plenty of outdoor activities you can do in and around Shelly Beach. Go horse riding in Corbould Park or swim and laze around on any of the beautiful beaches along the coast. History of Shelly Beach
The original and traditional owners of the region are the Gubbi Gubbi people, who used to feast on the Bunya Pines which grow locally in the area.
William Landsborough explored the area in 1882 and bought a plot of land on what is now known as Golden Beach. Since European settlement the Caloundra area has developed into a vibrant community popular with both tourists and residents.
Landmark in Shelly Beach
The Caloundra Lighthouse was first built in 1898 and has been recently refurbished and installed into its original location on Canberra Terrace. It is a beloved local historical landmark.
Natural landmarks in the region include the Blackall Ranges, Pumicestone Passage and the Glasshouse Mountains.

The main shopping centre in the region is Stocklands Shopping Centre in Caloundra. Kawana Shoppingworld and Currimundi Marketplace are also well stocked shopping precincts located near Shelly Beach. Caloundra has its own small airport, but it may be easier to find flights to and from Maroochydore Airport (20km away) or even Brisbane Airport. The nearest rail station is Landsborough, which is 20km from Shelly Beach. The train from Brisbane takes just under an hour and a half. There are local buses and taxi services available throughout the area.
