Landmark in Robe
The Obelisk shipping marker on Cape Dombey stands 40 ft high and 100 feet above sea level. Built in 1855, the Obelisk's alternate red and white bands helped guide mariners and can be seen from 20 kms at sea. An icon not to be missed.
The Old Gaol held prisoners from 1860 until 1881. After several escapes the outer walls were reinforced with steel boiler plates from the shipwrecked Admella. A crumbling ruin until 1995, the gaol's walls are now restored and great to explore.
Beacon Hill Lookout Tower gives a panoramic view of Robe, including Long Beach, Lake Fellmongery and Cape Dombey.
The Lake Butler Boat Haven is home to Robe's fishing fleet and recreational craft. A natural freshwater lake originally accessed by a slipway, a channel was cut through to the sea in 1964. Visit the Fishermans Memorial that honours lives lost at sea.
Factory Bay is the perfect place to see Doorway Rock. Further around is the Robe Lighthouse, built in 1972 to replace the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse.
Long Beach is 10 km's long and one of the few beaches in Australia that can be driven on. Long Beach is accessible in Summer but keep on firm sand and watch the tide. A Beach Patrol Officer may be on duty.
Lake Fellmongery (aka The Ski Lake) was given its industrial sounding name in 1853 when wool salvaged from shipwrecks was washed in the freshwater Lake.

Anglers will delight at the choice of locations. Places to lure include rock fishing in Guichen Bay, surf fishing at Long Gully through to West Beach and Wrights Bay. Try wharf fishing at the Great Southern Marina channel or off the jetty.
Boat fishing is safe up to 1 km off shore. Robe Deep Sea Fishing Charters go further off shore and if you are lucky, the tuna will be running. The Mount Benson Angling Club holds regular competitions. For recreational lobster licences and information contact PIRSA Fisheries Department.
