History of Albert Park
Indigenous inhabitants have lived in the area for over 40, 000 years. Albert Park was used as a garbage disposal location and a military camp before an artificial lake was constructed and the suburb became a residential centre. In 1864 the suburb?s main park was named to honour Prince Albert after his tragic death.
Landmark in Albert Park
One of Albert Park?s most popular landmarks is Albert Park Reserve. This state park was named after Prince Albert and is the site of the Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit. The Formula One Grand Prix has been held here since 1996.
