History of Anglesea
The Wathaurong people are the traditional owners of the land around Anglesea. Their land covered an area between Queenscliff, Aireys Inlet and the granite outcrop known as the You Yangs.
Anglesea was originally known as Swampy Creek and subsequently as Anglesea River.
The name was eventually changed to Anglesea which is a well known town on the west coast of Wales.
During the early 1900s, the town attracted holiday homes, a general store and a new road which was completed in 1915.
