Frankston's coastal location and growing popularity as both a holiday and residential area means there are a number of activities for the visitor.
Frankston has excellent beaches and a pretty waterfront that includes Frankston Pier and Frankston Foreshore. A boardwalk stretches over 12 kilometres to Seaford and the Kanahook Creek Reserve features a number of fine bushwalks.
The George Petland Botanical Gardens feature a playground, boardwalk and extensive gardens and is an ideal spot for picnics and barbeques. Frankston is home to a number of nature reserves and parks that feature walking trails and picnic spots including Bunurong Park, Casurina Reserve and Sweetwater Creek Nature Reserve.

History of Frankston
The area around Frankston has been inhabited by the Kulin Aboriginal people for thousands of years. The first European settlement in the district began in the middle of the 1800s and was primarily based around agricultural and fishing.
Frankston grew as a result of the railway line connecting it to Melbourne and as a large service town for smaller settlements on the Mornington Peninsula.
Known from an early stage as a popular holiday destination, Frankston's ideal bayside location and proximity to Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula has resulted in population growth from seachangers and retirees.

Frankston's most famous landmark is its foreshore which lines Port Phillip Bay. The area contains a raised boardwalk, playgrounds and parks, all with sweeping views over the bay. The Landmark Bridge over Kanahook Creek fronts many of the postcards of the town and jutting out into Port Phillip Bay is the Frankston Pier which at over 500 metres in length is always popular with anglers and walkers.
