History of Mornington
Originally known as Schnapper Point, Mornington, the main settlement of Mornington Peninsula, was settled in the 1830s. Livestock followed and so did the first hotel in 1856. In the late 1800's when the railway was built, it began to attract tourists. Paddle steamer was once a common mode of transport around the resorts of the area.
