Things to do in Ocean Grove
Ocean Grove is a great Australian holiday destination featuring a wealth of activities to keep the visitor happy. Swim, surf or sunbake at the ocean beaches or the calmer waterways of the the Barwon River and its estuary. There are a number of great bushwalks along the beaches. The surrounding Bellarine Peninsula features interesting orchids, vineyards and waterways including Lake Connewarre and Reedy Swamp where an abundance of migratory birds make their home.
There is great surfing at Smiths Beach, Barwon Heads and Breamlea Beaches. Just to the west, are the world renowned surfing beaches of Torquay and Bells Beach.
Established in 1962, the Ocean Grove Nature Reserve is a popular attraction where you can see a range of native wildlife in a tranquil setting as you bushwalk through one of the remaining untouched areas of the Bellarine Peninsula. Kids will love Amaze N Games, an amusement park in nearby Wallington featuring mazes, puzzles and a miniature golf course
History of Ocean Grove
Ocean Grove was originally settled by American Methodists who bought the land of the town with the intent of establishing a religious camp on the Bellarine Peninsula. The town was named Ocean Grove after the town of the same name in New Jersey which was also a Methodist camp and today, many streets in Ocean Grove are named after important Methodists.
Ocean Grove grew with the arrival of immigrant families in the early 1900's, and by the 1970's and 80's the town had become a peaceful, suburban settlement by the sea, attracting families, retirees and tourists.

The Barwon River dividing Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove forms a picturesque backdrop for the ever popular holiday town of Ocean Grove. The bridge linking the two towns was made famous by the television series Seachange.

Ocean Grove has a busy shopping precinct centred around The Terrace, a one way street in the middle of town. The Ocean Grove Marketplace Shopping Centre has a number of speciality shops and both a Coles and Safeway supermarket. There area is home to interesting local home wares, arts and crafts and souvenir shops in Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads and Queenscliff. Nearby Geelong also has large shopping centres and all other services of a town its size.

Ocean Grove is a one and a quarter hour drive south of Melbourne and a twenty minute drive from Geelong. Avalon Airport is a 40 minute drive from Ocean Grove where Jetstar operates direct flights to capital cities. Local Buses connect Ocean Grove and the other towns of the Bellarine Peninsula with Geelong.

Ocean Grove is 98 kilometres from Melbourne and 19 kilometres south-east of Geelong. The pretty town of Barwon Heads is just 6 kilometres away and Torquay and the start of the Great Ocean Road is 27 kilometres away.
