Things to do in Thredbo Village
Located in Kosciuszko National Park, this Snowy Mountains resort offers skiing and snowboarding in winter and in summer bushwalking, mountain biking and horse riding through native alpine bushland as well as canoeing, kayaking and fishing. In the warmer months you can also take a scenic chairlift ride or walk the 12km to the top of Mount Kosciuszko and back or take a spin on the bobsled run.
History of Thredbo Village
Thredbo began as a gold town in the 1860s and skiers came once the Alpine Way was built in the 1950s. The village was developed by a group of people working on the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme and Lend Lease Corporation but Amalgamated Holdings Limited (AHL) has owned the lease and operated the village's services, real estate and lease arrangements since 1987. In 1997, eighteen people died when a landslide caused the collapse of two ski lodges.

Thredbo Village in located in Kosciuszko National Park and is the starting point for the walk to the top of Mount Kosciuszko, Australia's highest mountain. Thredbo also hosts annual blues and jazz music festivals. The ski lift up Mount Crackenback operates year round and at the top is a restaurant with spectacular Snowy Mountains views.

Thredbo has a free shuttle bus service during the ski season that stops at a number of designated stops between the Village and Friday Flat between 7:30am to 5:30pm. It also has an after hours bus around the village between 5:30pm to 9:00pm Sunday to Thursday and until 2am on Friday night and midnight on Saturday. Other services are provided for special events like night skiing.

Thredbo is around 500km south west of Sydney and 32km south west of Jindabyne. A number of coaches operate to the mountains. Snowy Mountains airport is about 1 hour's drive from Thredbo.
