History of Vermont South
The land around Vermont South was originally thick bushland inhabited by the Kooris of the Wurundjeri tribe. The first settlers arrived in the 1850s and eventually used the land to plant orchards. The suburb was named by a botanist who chose Vermont because of the areas distinctive green hills.
