Things to do in Warrnambool

Experience what life was like in a port town during the 1800s at the unique Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village. History of Warrnambool

The city name is taken from the Aboriginal word Warrnambool which was used to refer to a nearby volcano cone. The word is thought to have several meanings including two swamps and ample water. During the Victorian Gold Rush, Warrnambool became a busy and important port. Warrnambool has developed from a municipality to a borough to a town and finally into a city in 1918.
