Things to do in Williamstown
The Williamstown Festival is held every year in March or April, and celebrates the vibrant waterfront culture and rich maritime history of Williamstown. Grab a glass of wine or beer with a friendly and tasty meal on the water at Nelson Place. Enjoy an amazing view of Melbourne?s skyline.
It would be hard to go to Williamstown without visiting some its most fascinating historical sites and museums. You can explore the interior of a replica of the Enterprize ? the first vessel to carry settlers up the Yarra River and into Melbourne. You can even charter the ship on weekends! Gem Pier is definitely worth a look as is the HMAS Castlemaine (a WWII Minesweeper converted into a maritime museum). Port Gellibrand is home to the Time Ball Tower, built by convicts to communicate time to the ships.
A wander through the craft shops and galleries at Commonwealth Reserve is a nice idea for an afternoon or morning outing.

The first inhabitants of the land around Hobsons Bay were the Yalukit-willam clan of the Kulin nation.

The area became a popular settlement location because of its sheltered harbour. Within the first 5 years, over 100 buildings were constructed including two hotels, for which the suburb is now famous.
