There is a limitless diversity of things to do in and around Busselton. History of Busselton
Before the arrival of Europeans in the 1830s, Busselton was inhabited by the Indigenous Noongar tribe. After European settlement the town was named after the Bussell family, who made their home on the shores of the Vasse River. While earlier inhabitants used to hunt the local whales, today whale watching and spotting is the thing to do.
Landmark in Busselton
Busselton is home to one of the longest jetties in the world. Stretching over 2km, Busselton Jetty was once used as a shipping port, but today is enjoyed by fisherman and holiday makers.
St Marys Church of England built in 1844-5 is one of Busseltons oldest historical buildings, and certainly the prettiest. The plans for the church were partly concocted by John Garrett Bussell himself.
