The first stop of many visitors to Broome is to the world famous Cable Beach. Swim and snorkel in the clearest water you can imagine or simply wander along the white sand. History of Broome & North Coast
The Yawuru people have inhabited the land around Broome for thousands of years. The first European to visit the area was William Dampier in 1688. The town itself was named after the Governor of Western Australia, Sir Fredrick Broome.
Broome and the North Coast region was first settled to service the pearling industry that began in the early 1800's. The rapid price rise of pearls lured many people hoping to make their fortune.

Cable Beach's 22 kilometre long stretch of creamy, white sand and calm, turquoise water is one of the most recognisable landmarks of Broome. Named because it was originally the terminus of an underwater sea cable linking Australia with Asia and Great Britain, Cable Beach draws visitors and locals alike looking to cool off from Broome's tropical climate.
The large gulf of King Sound, near the town of Derby, is an amazing waterway connecting the Fitzroy River with the Indian Ocean. With a length of 120 kilometres, King Sound has the largest tidal range of any body of water in Australia.
The Broome and North Coast region is also the gateway to the Kimberley. This awe inspiring region of Western Australia is home to rugged mountain ranges and breathtaking gorges. The Kimberley's most popular spots for tourists include the Bungle Bungle, Lake Argyle and the Gibb River Road.
