Joondalup is home to a number of diverse attractions. The Aquarium of Western Australia at Hillarys Boat Harbour is a favourite of children who can marvel at the giant sharks and rays and learn about West Australian aquatic life.
Joondalup also boasts a number of excellent parks and reserves that are ideal for bushwalks, barbeques and picnics. Yellagonga Regional Park is one of Perth's eight regional parks and contains a heritage trail, bicycle paths and beautiful picnic areas. Other parks in Joondalup include the Neil Hawkins Park, Windemere Park and Candlewood Park.
Joondalup is also within easy reach of fantastic ocean beaches including Mullaloo Beach, Burns Beach and Mindarie Beach. History of Joondalup
Joondalup is a Noongar Aboriginal word thought to mean a place of glistening and was first applied to Lake Joondalup which sits to the east of the suburb.
Joondalup is a relatively new suburb of Perth and was conceived as being a regional centre for Perth's northern suburbs. It was only in the late 1980s and early 1990s that the suburb began being fully developed and now is considered one of the fastest growing areas of Western Australia.

Lake Joondalup is the main landmark in Joondalup. Home to a diverse range of wildlife including ducks, turtles and fish, the lake is a popular attraction for both tourists and visitors alike who picnic along its banks and fish from its jetty.
