Things to do in Maylands
Visit the Old Bakery on Eighth Ave for a delicious cup of coffee and an opportunity to see visit some of Perth's most respected art galleries. Studio 281 on Guildford Rd also showcases local creative talents. A trip to Tranby Peninsula Farmhouse will give you a taste of life as it was on the Swan River colony in the 19th century. There are also cycling and pedestrian paths up and down the river for those who want to keep fit while enjoying the view. The Maylands Park Shopping Centre is the place to go for some retail therapy or a bite to eat. If you prefer sportier past times the croquet club and golf course are open to the public.
History of Maylands
Maylands was originally a source of clay for bricks and tiles, as well as being the home of Perth's airport. In 1928, Charles Kingsford-Smith made his first non-stop flight across Australia landing at Maylands Airport. The airport moved in the 1960s, and Maylands became a thriving residential inner city suburb. Its train station was refurbished in 2000 to allow easy access to the CBD.
Landmark in Maylands
Tranby House is one of Maylands' historical and architectural landmarks. Tucked away on the banks of the Swan River, this colonial farmhouse attracts visitors with its green sloping lawns and English Oak trees which are over a century old. The house is decorated in a 19th century style and has charming tearooms attached.
Shopping in Maylands
Maylands Park Shopping Centre is situated on Guildford Rd. Here you will find all essential services including a post office, newsagency and supermarket. Located in the nearby suburb of Morley, the Centro Galleria is one of Perth?s largest shopping centres with major chains, 200 specialty stores and a cinema complex. Other local shopping districts include the Belmont Forum Shopping Centre in Cloverdale and the Mezz in Mount Hawthorn.
Restaurants & Cafes in Maylands
The main restaurant precinct is on Guildford Rd and Eighth Ave. Choose from Thai, Chinese, Italian, Mexican or Modern Australian. There is every type of eatery from take-away restaurants, to cafes to restaurants. Maylands is ideal for casual family dinners, and you can get a drink after work at the Inglewood Hotel in Mt Lawley. For something a little different, enjoy an afternoon snack of scones and tea at the Tranby House Tearooms on Johnson Rd

Maylands has a small yacht club and its own golf course. The suburb also has a croquet association and a tennis club. Maylands Sport and Recreation Club is located in Clarkson Rd and there is a women?s gym on Guildford Rd.
