Things to do in Ocean Reef
Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club has fantastic diving, boating and angling facilities. Otherwise you can enjoy a refreshing bike ride or stroll up the coast of Mullaloo Beach. Burns Beach is another scenic coastline to explore - and there are a handful of cute cafes where you can get a cold milkshake or casual meal. If shopping is your idea of a holiday - both Ocean Reef Shopping Centre and Beaumaris Shopping Centre are at your disposal. Perth CBD is only a 20 minute train ride away if you are looking for a more bustling city atmosphere. Ocean Reef is a resort town where you can relax without being too far from modern conveniences or entertainment.
History of Ocean Reef
In the 1970s, local developers began using the name Ocean Reef because there was a visible reef several kilometres off the coast of the suburb. In 1974 it became the official town moniker, replacing Beaumaris - which is still used as the name of a shopping centre and local primary school.

Ocean Reef is known for its scenic harbour. The marina provides first class boat launching facilities and is home to the Ocean Reef Sea Sports Club which runs regular boating competitions.

Because the suburb is divided into two sections by Hodges Drive, there are two major shopping precincts. Beaumaris Shopping Centre is in the north and Ocean Reef Shopping Centre is in the south. Both shopping plazas offer a range of fresh food outlets as well as specialty boutiques. Joondalup Lakeside Shopping City is also only a short drive away. The Wanneroo Markets are a retail highlight in the area. Open Saturday to Monday and public holidays, the markets feature a widely assorted array of arts, crafts, clothes, gifts and gourmet local produce.

Ocean Reef has a few places to eat out, but for an evening of fine dining and night life you may want to check out the neighbouring suburb of Joondalup or even the Perth CBD. Joondalup offers plenty of friendly pubs, taverns, hotels and bistros. Asian cuisine is also a local specialty with many Chinese, Thai and Indian restaurants to choose from especially along Central Walk and Davidson Terrace.
