The most popular things to do in Rockingham revolve around the water. There are a plethora of water sports to try including kayaking, scuba diving, sailing, wind surfing, jet boating and fishing. The famous dolphins of the Rockingham beaches are a popular attraction and large groups of them can be seen gathering in Cockburn Sound and Shoalwater Bay. Charter boats can take you on an aquatic life watching cruise where you can see penguins, sea lions and dolphins. There is even a cruise where you can swim with the dolphins. There are surf schools at Safety Bay and the fantastic north facing beaches of Palm and Rockingham Beach are great for swimming all year round.
Back on dry land, Rockingham contains a fantastic waterfront, with good parks, walkways and picnic spots. Bell and Churchill Parks are two of the most popular and are great spots for picnics
The nearby offshore islands of Rottnest and Penguin Island are well worth exploring and kids will love Marapana Wildlife World and Linga Longa, both animal parks where you can get close to native animals.
History of Rockingham
Rockingham was officially proclaimed in 1897 and started its life as a busy shipping port. Today it is a south western suburb of Perth and one of the nation's fastest growing residential areas. Perth's playground, the town has long been a seaside haven drawing visitors from all over the state.
