Things to do in Bundeena
The main activities in Bundeena revolve around the waters of Port Hacking and the forests of the Royal National Park. Jibbon Beach, Hordern Beach, Simpsons Bay and Maianbar all offer calm swimming beaches ideal for families. The walk to Jibbon Point passes spectacular Aboriginal rock drawings. History of Bundeena
Bundeena was originally inhabited by the Dharawal Aboriginal people. The town's name is said to be an Aboriginal word meaning 'noise like thunder,' a reference to the waves crashing on the beaches of the town. Bass and Flinders were the first Europeans to explore the area, however it was not until 1832 that the first land grants were issued and the town began to take shape. The untouched expanse of bushland to the south of the town was given national park status in 1879, making the Royal National Park Australia's oldest park.

The Royal National Park which surrounds Bundeena, is Australia's oldest and the second oldest national park in the world, after Yosemite National Park. Officially gazetted in 1879, the park's huge expanse of natural scenery has long been a favourite retreat of Sydneysiders. Home to beautiful beaches, delightful waterways and rugged coastal scenery, the park is a haven for bushwalkers, mountain bike riders and surfers. Long drives through the beautiful scenery are popular along Lady Wakehurst Drive and Sir Bertram Stevens Drive. Garie Beach, Jibbon Beach and Wattamolla Beach all feature terrific swimming spots and waterfront reserves, perfect for picnics and barbeques.
