THE HISTORY OF ST. MARGARETS' COMPLEX
St. Margarets' Complex is an urban village - city living at its finest and most convenient. It is situated on the highest point of land where Darlinghurst meets Surry Hills and was developed around the former Women's Hospital by the same name. The St. Margarets' Hospital was founded in 1951 and delivered almost 300,000 babies before closing in 1998.
St. Margarets, with its original grand, institutional aesthetic,
has been a local icon for decades. Many Sydneysiders were born here.
Renowned architects Peddle Thorp and Walker, together with Interior designer Andrew Parr of SJB Interiors, retained the exterior of that grand building. And crafted light and space into the remarkable homes for the Sydney urbanite.
The historic circular chapel, designed by one-time NSW State Architect Kenneth Wooley, was also preserved and turned into the Object Art Gallery - Australia's new centre for design.
St. Margarets' urban village consists of tree distinctive apartment buildings, each expressing its own character - Alba(former hospital), Jasper and Ivy and a row of 12 townhouses - Henry - see the map in the picture gallery.
Henry's enviable position allows you to feel part of the atmosphere downstairs as you enter through the public square (sharing the entrance and the stairs with only one neighbour) - then retreat to your own completely private and quiet Idaho.
The townhouse on offer is positioned exactly opposite the former Chapel now Object Gallery.
Henry's interiors are like mini-art gallery: white walls flooded with natural light, white vinyl floors and a kitchen that gives new meaning to clean lines - fantastic background for dark polished stairs, dark modern designer furniture and colourful designer rugs. The split level design gives it extra floor space and multi-use.
Located on the corner of Bourke St. and Church Lane, St. Margarets' takes advantage of inner city proximity, but why leave?
On the ground floor of St. Margarets' is a public space, which is just that - public and spacious. The lower levels of all buildings form a unique mix of boutique shops, cafes, restaurants and retailers. So you can meet and greet here or simply pick up some groceries on your way home. It's a space where you can still feel connected to the buzz of the street, where you can come down from your balcony and enjoy the atmosphere of the square, bursting with life: cuisine savouring, coffee-sipping, wine tasting, gallery gazing...
Due to its exclusive location, top class quality and proximity to all amenities and landmarks, St. Margarets' is ideal for practically everyone: executives, gay, families with children, honeymooners, quests with pets etc.
ST. MARGARETS' IN DARLINGHURST is ideally located for visiting Sydney. It is a great neighbourhood to experience 'living' in Sydney, be it for just a week or even better a longer stay. So close to the city and its beautiful harbour and close to Sydney famous beaches and waterways.

Availability calendar not up to date?
rentahome does encourage our property managers to update their availability calendars as often as possible.
Unfortunately it isn't always as frequent as we'd like, each calendar has a date of which the calendar was last updated so you who how up to date the listing is.
This is why rentahome has the quote process, it confirms the current availability of your selected property/s and the best rate available for your stay. -
Are visitors able to inspect properties?
rentahome welcomes inspections however they may not be always feasible and are generally only available for longer stays of three months or longer.
The property must first be quoted as available with a price for your requested dates.
To request an inspection simply login to your Quote at the below link using your quote number and surname: http://www.rent-a-home.com.au/home/my/quotedetails.aspx
Scroll down to your preferred property and under the photo there will be a button 'Request Inspection', click on 'Request Inspection' and fill in your details. Your details will be sent to the property manager who will make contact within 48hours to arrange an appointment.
