Overview
Description
"Mum's House" is a comfortable, convenient affordable private house just a 5-minute walk from Flemington Station. It is situated in a garden shared with the landlady, who lives separately across the courtyard, and the beautiful local bird life. We are only 10 minutes from the Sydney Olympic Park and the Sydney Showground and, amazingly, considering the very reasonable tariff, a bare 30-40 minutes from Sydney Harbour.
32" flat screen digital T.V. Sofa bed with 4" inner spring mattress. There is also a DVD player, VCR, and a small stereo. There's a washing machine, full gas stove, reverse cycle air conditioning plus new gas heater, hairdryer, dishes, pots and pans, cutlery, etc. And if you can't find what you need in "Mum's House" , the landlady across the courtyard will have it, for sure! AND NOW THERE'S WI-FI, but bring your own laptop (extra $10 p.w.). Sorry, it doesn't work with an iPhone or an iPad.…
"Mum's House" is an architecturally-designed, small 2-bedroom house (no smoking inside). It was redecorated inside and the floors re-polished, in 2011, and the outside painted in 2012 - so we're looking great! Three single beds - brand new in August '12 - (+ single sofa bed in the lounge room. A fourth person, big or small, is $35 p.n. extra, even if in a portacot or sharing a bed).
There is lots of wardrobe and drawer space in both bedrooms. All bed linen, blankets and towels are provided (with electric blankets in season) - in fact, everything that may be needed for a short, comfortable stay is here.
Lighting is excellent throughout the house and surrounds, and well-maintained window coverings afford total privacy. Vertical blinds cover glass doors in the principal room and the back bedroom, which lead to small decks.
There is always space to park your vehicle on the street in front of the property, but our great advantage is our proximity to public transport. Homebush is approx. 15 km. west of the City and 3 km. from the Sydney Olympic Park and Sydney Showground.
Mum's House" is perfect for small families-groups who are attending events at Olympic Park, or who are coming from intrastate, interstate or overseas as tourists to Sydney. It's also in an ideal central location for newcomers needing a few weeks' accommodation while they job- and house-hunt.
We're about 10 minutes by private transport from the Olympic Park, or you can walk it in 30 brisk minutes! (We've even catered for wheelchair racers who wheeled from "Mum's House" to the Olympic Park.) Or take the train one station west then change to the Sprint train for a short ride to Olympic Park.
We're only 2 stations from Strathfield, a central interchange, from where 1000 trains a day will take you to just about anywhere in NSW.
If you can drive to Homebush Bay Wharf, the Rivercat ferry commute to the City is quite magical. (Or take the train to Parramatta and catch the same ferry from there.)
The Sydney Olympic Park at Homebush was the site of the 2000 Olympics, and now is a hub for many sporting, and other, events. There are 2 stadiums, the marvellous Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre (you'll never get the children out of there!), the very busy Sydney Olympic Sports Centre, and the lovely Bicentennial Park, home to thousands of migratory birds, the Golden Orb Spider and other fascinating, harmless Australian wildlife. You can rent bikes (& helmets) there as well.
Go to the Sydney Olympic Park's web site to see what events are taking place at the Athletic Centre, the Golf Centre, the Sports Hall, the Tennis Centre, and the myriad other venues.
We're 2 minutes' walk from the Hudson Park Golf Course, an 18-hole, par 60 accredited course, or 5 minutes' drive from Strathfield Golf Club, which is par 71.
The new 38-lane AMF bowling centre is just 5 minutes away.
Rosehill Race Track is a 15-minute drive away, while shopping centres, cinemas, and houses of worship are within 15 minutes' transport.
Cook's River Cycleway, Rookwood Necropolis (one of the best surviving examples of a Victorian cemetery in the world), and Paddy's Flemington Markets are all nearby.
One of Sydney's biggest and best clothing-homewares disposal complexes, Direct Factory Outlet (DFO), is near Olympic Park, and can be reached by car or bus.
Homebush West has many Chinese-Vietnamese restaurants, a Sri Lankan-Indian take-away, and a bottle shop. Two suburbs west (but with a change of trains) is wonderful Turkish food, and 1 suburb east are Sri Lankan and Indian restaurants.
Over the years we have accommodated many participants in events at the Sydney Olympic Park and the Sydney Showground. Further, international, interstate and intrastate tourists cannot believe their luck in finding such a comfortable and affordable house so close to the City. It is also an excellent venue for new-comers, as we're so central that it makes house-hunting and job-hunting a breeze.
TALES FROM THE GUEST BOOK
(This) is a beautiful little house, so clean and comfortable with everything we could possibly need, a little haven of peace and tranquillity to come home to after a busy day sight-seeing. We really enjoyed the lovely garden and birds.
Thank-you Anna for telling us the interesting history of the house and for making us so welcome.

Not just Mum's House - Mum's Gallery, Mum's Library and Mum's Museum, with Mum to boot! Would have loved more time to appreciate it - had too much sleep to catch up on.

Mum's Place was lovely and in an ideal location for the V8's. A quick walk to Flemington Station meant we could train to all locations we needed to get to. Sydney has an efficient and reliable train service; Melbourne could learn a lesson or two!! K.H., B.B., K.G., & L.S., Melbourne, 12-10

Mum's House"...is indeed a nice and comfortable place to stay. Highly recommended:
-Saturday morning market at The Rocks
-Sydney Opera House Essential Tour (cheaper if you book online)
-Blue Mountains (buy the hop-on hop-off trolley train, not the Explorer - expensive!)
-Manly Beach
-Harbour Bridge (ferry to Milsons Point, then walk back)
-Botanic Gardens
-State Library of NSW, Parliament House, The Mint Museum
-Sydney Tower, particularly at sunset

Thank you for a great stay at "Mum's House". The location was very close to 'Walk On', a program at the University of Sydney, Lidcombe (campus). We found the house had everything we needed and was great for Rod, who is in a wheelchair as he is a paraplegic. R. (13 wk.), R. & D.W., Cockatoo, Vic., 8-10

Thank you very much for a comfortable stay. It was very handy to our cricket venue (Silverwater Indoor Sports)....We were here for the Australian National Indoor Cricket Championships. (Our son was) Player of the Final. Queensland won! K.W., J. & J. W., Yamanto, Qld., 7-10

"What a beautiful cottage you have....One reason we came was to enjoy the last ACDC tour that will ever be performed. For the time we stayed with you we did all the tourist things like the Sydney Tower & Skywalk, Aquarium, Hyde Park War Memorial, all the ferries to various points in Sydney, BridgeClimb, afternoon tea at the Lindt Cafe (yummy) at the Cockle Wharf, Monorail ride around the city, Bondi Beach. All recommended. The local food is great. We tried Sun Sun Kitchen (the best) on the Crescent.

Availability calendar not up to date?
rentahome does encourage our property managers to update their availability calendars as often as possible.
Unfortunately it isn't always as frequent as we'd like, each calendar has a date of which the calendar was last updated so you who how up to date the listing is.
This is why rentahome has the quote process, it confirms the current availability of your selected property/s and the best rate available for your stay. -
Are visitors able to inspect properties?
rentahome welcomes inspections however they may not be always feasible and are generally only available for longer stays of three months or longer.
The property must first be quoted as available with a price for your requested dates.
To request an inspection simply login to your Quote at the below link using your quote number and surname: http://www.rent-a-home.com.au/home/my/quotedetails.aspx
Scroll down to your preferred property and under the photo there will be a button 'Request Inspection', click on 'Request Inspection' and fill in your details. Your details will be sent to the property manager who will make contact within 48hours to arrange an appointment.
If there is no 'Request Inspection' button, this means the property manager does not provide inspections.
Please note that properties are not held and may be booked by other visitors. -
Will I have to pay a security deposit?
A Bond/Security Deposit may be required by the Property Manager the amount will vary depending on the property manager. If so, this payment will take place outside of the Rentahome EasyPay System and you may be asked to direct transfer funds into the Property Manager's bank account or a credit card imprint may be requested. Rentahome does not become involved in the payment or return of bonds or security deposits. Return of these amounts is based on the Property Manager's terms and conditions and their inspection of the property after your stay.
The Security Deposit (Bond) is required to cover any damage or incidential costs incurred during your stay at the property. If there is no Damage or Additional Costs then the Security Deposit will be refunded. If the amount of the Damage or Additional Costs are greater than the Security Deposit, then the Guest will be required to pay the difference.
