Then you can marvel at the amazing tropical butterflies in the walk-through rainforest enclosure at the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. On the other side of the Kuranda Railway Station you can take a relaxing and informative 45 minute cruise on the Kuranda Riverboat. Many people enjoy wandering through the Heritage Markets and a trip to Kuranda would not be complete without sampling the delicious Kuranda Home Made Tropical Ice Cream.

Kuranda was founded in 1876 and is inhabited by the Djabugay aboriginal people who have lived here for over 10,000 years. Tourism began in the area at the beginning of the twentieth century and became very popular in the 1960's with the
