Things to do in Palm Cove

The number of things to do in Palm Cove is endless. Wether you are looking for an adrenaline rush by going bungee jumping or sky diving or just want to explore the natural wonders of this beautiful place, Palm Cove has something for everyone. You can hop on a boat to visit the Great Barrier Reef and explore the fantastic tropical sea life by going snorkelling or scuba diving. The beaches are pristine and crystal clear so you can be sure that you will be able to have a great view of the stunning array of tropical fish and sea life that is on offer. Take the kids to Bird World, the Cairns Tropical Zoo or Butterfly World which are all located in the surrounding area. If you want to de-stress, then you are at the right place! Palm Cove has the largest concentration of spas and wellness centres in Australia located within a 3km radius.

History of Palm Cove

Palm Cove was originally called Palm Beach and received its name due to the many palms found dotted along the area. Palm Cove is where the rainforest meets the world renowned Great Barrier Reef.

Landmark in Palm Cove

Palm Cove is a natural paradise with some of the most amazing beaches and tropical rainforests in the world. What can be more spectacular than the Great Barrier Reef. Treat yourself to a reef trip and experience underwater world where you will be amazed at the sea life and colourful corals. There are many reef trips available where you can either scuba dive, snorkel or enjoy a glass bottom boat ride.

Shopping in Palm Cove

Palm Cove has a great range of shopping options and the Village Shopping Centre has some excellent fashion boutiques, art galleries, cafes and much more. You will also find a general store and post office at Palm Cove. Palm Cove has 2 small stores stocking grocery items, one at the Novotel resort and the other on The Esplanade. The nearest major supermarket is located at Clifton Beach, which is approximately 3 kilometres south of Palm Cove. The nearest major shopping centre is located at Smithfield approximately a 15 minute drive south of Palm Cove along Captain Cook Hwy.

Restaurants & Cafes in Palm Cove

There is a great selection of dining options available at Palm Cove ranging from exclusive 5 star beach front restaurants to your traditional fish and chips. There are more than 20 restaurants and bars in the surrounding area so there is something for every taste.

Sports & Fitness in Palm Cove

Palm Cove has a good range of sporting clubs and offers numerous activities such as horse riding, water sports, bush walking, scuba diving and hot air ballooning to name a few. There is a local sports centre which offers a gym, swimming pool and tennis courts. Bicycle hire is also available. If youre a golfer, be sure to visit the Palm Cove Golf Course.

Palm Cove is located just 30 minutes from Cairns International Airport and is half way between Cairns and Port Douglas.

Transportation in Palm Cove

The closest airport is Cairns airport and there are many ways to reach Palm Cove from Cairns. Taxis are readily available, along with shuttle buses and hire car companies. A public bus service also runs regularly from Cairns to Palm Cove.
