Things to do in Southport
Shop until your heart is content in the Australia Fair Shopping Centre, and travel to the nearby beach suburbs for unique and upmarket clothes and jewellery stores. Sea World is an ever popular attraction, and additional theme parks such as Movie World and Universal Studios are also within driving distance of Southport. Go to Main Beach, Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach for a sunny day out swimming, relaxing and surfing. Go out for a meal on Marina Parade, or have a coffee at a caf? by the beach.
History of Southport
The name Southport comes from the fact that the suburb was the southern most point of the Queensland colony. The area began as a large timber supplier, with its own timber mill and a port that allowed transport to and from Brisbane. By the 20th Century Southport had become a popular tourist destination, and today is the central business district for the Gold Coast.

One of the most popular landmarks in the area Sea World theme park, situated on the Southport spit and attracts thousands of local and international tourists each year. Just opposite Sea World you will find another iconic landmark of Southport: the Broadwater ? a stylish waterfront area complete with a yacht club and multiple marinas.

The largest shopping complex is the Australia Fair Shopping Centre, which has over 233 stores and its own cinema. Just a few minutes away you will find Surfers Paradise and its wide array of upmarket resort wear boutiques.
