Things to do in Anglesea
Anglesea is the official start of the Great Ocean Road. There are many things to see and do in Anglesea.
Anglesea is a highly popular holiday destination because it combines a great beach with plenty of holiday activities for all the family to enjoy.
The Anglesea River is a popular location for swimmers and the area has patrolled surf and swimming beaches which are all surrounded by spectacular forest and coastal scenery.

Coogoorah Park is a popular park which is located at the end of River Reserve Road and features a network of islands all of which are linked by boardwalks and bridges through wetlands.
History of Anglesea
The Wathaurong people are the traditional owners of the land around Anglesea. Their land covered an area between Queenscliff, Aireys Inlet and the granite outcrop known as the You Yangs.
Anglesea was originally known as Swampy Creek and subsequently as Anglesea River.
The name was eventually changed to Anglesea which is a well known town on the west coast of Wales.
During the early 1900s, the town attracted holiday homes, a general store and a new road which was completed in 1915.

Most of the major attractions - the Twelve Apostles, London Bridge are all located at the western end of Anglesea. The Anglesea Golf club is famous worldwide because of the kangaroos which graze along the golf course greens.
