History of Melbourne

Melbourne was founded on the mouth of the Yarra River in 1835 by settlers from Tasmania to expand their grazing land. It became independent from New South Wales in 1850 when it boomed due to the gold rush in the region. Today it is renowned for its cultural delights and is considered an important financial centre.
