Fingal Head Beach Holidays
Tucked away just below the border, Fingal Head is a sleepy coastal village offering proximity to wonderful surf beaches, the Tweed River and all the
attractions and excitement of the Gold Coast. Holiday rental accommodation in Fingal Head makes a great choice for visitors looking to experience the magical coastline of far northern New South Wales.
Fingal Beach is a glorious strip of sand that runs from the headland north to the mouth of the Tweed River. A great surf break can be found adjacent to the headland, while bathers can find plenty of safe swimming spots further along the sand. The breakwalls that control the entrance of the Tweed River attract many anglers and are perfect for long strolls beside the tranquil turquoise waters. Doppys Beach is a calm water swimming spot formed by the breakwalls and is an idyllic spot to soak up the sun.
The headland from which the town derives its name is also a must-see for visitors. Fingal Lighthouse adorns the top of the rocky promontory and offers an interesting insight into the maritime history of the town. Tracks criss-cross the headland and travel through preserved rainforest to remarkable vantage points for viewing the coastline. Rocky platforms below the cliffs are popular fishing spots for experienced anglers. Fingal Head is also a noted whale watching spot, with the animals easily viewed from the peak during the migration season.
Dreamtime Beach runs from the southern limits of the headland all the way to the popular
coastal resort town of Kingscliff. Recently featured in
Australian Traveller magazine as one of the best 'secret' beaches in the country, Dreamtime Beach boasts pristine white sands, crystal waters and is fringed by lush tropical vegetation. Swimming, fishing and surfing spots abound and the beach's relative inaccessibility ensures there are plenty of secluded places for everyone.
Fingal Head is also bordered by the Tweed River, which sweeps to the west of the town and divides it from the lower reaches of Tweed Heads. A boat ramp off Fingal Road provides easy access to the water where boating, fishing, swimming, kayaking and canoeing are all popular activities. Pleasant riverfront parks and reserves also follow the banks of the river and are ideal for picnics, barbecues and relaxing beside the water.
