Fishing Holiday Accommodation

Fishing is one of Australia's favourite pastimes. All around the country, anglers flock to beaches, lakes, estuaries and rivers to drop a line in the water. A fishing holiday makes for a great getaway, and a number of areas are renowned for their excellent fishing spots.

New South Wales offers some of the best fishing areas in Australia. The Port Stephens region features a large, well stocked harbour. Towns such as Nelson Bay, Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest make great bases for a fishing holiday and are easily accessible from Sydney.

Further north, the twin towns of Forster-Tuncurry are known for their excellent lake, beach and river fishing spots. Wallis Lake is a large estuary system offering tranquil locations, while nearby Smiths and Myall Lakes are also favourites of anglers.

Ballina, located in the Northern Rivers region, is a fishing hotspot. The Richmond River estuary is an angler's paradise, while the town's beaches are known for their productive fishing holes.

To the south of Sydney, towns such as Batemans Bay and Narooma offer lakes, estuaries, rivers and quiet beaches. In Merimbula, anglers line the shore of Front Lake, Bar Beach and Main Beach.

Queensland's endless sweep of coastline has some of the best fishing spots in Australia. Hervey Bay is a buzzing holiday town that is also a major gateway to nearby Fraser Island. The waters of the Great Sandy Strait are extremely productive, while in town, the Urangan Pier is the most popular location.

Far North Queensland attracts many people on fishing holidays tempted by the promise of hooking the famous barramundi. Townsville's Cleveland Bay is a popular location, while nearby Magnetic Island also makes a great base.

The world famous holiday centres of Cairns and Port Douglas lie to the north and make popular bases for both shore based and offshore fishing trips.

Victoria's most beloved fishing destinations include towns in the south west of the state such as Portland and Port Fairy. Port Phillip Bay and Western Port also offer lengthy shorelines with a great many piers, wharves and beaches for shore based fishing.

Goolwa in South Australia is where the Murray River meets the ocean, with the surrounding estuary areas home to a number of fishing areas. The Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island are also popular fishing holiday destinations.

Western Australia's rugged southern coastline encompasses towns such as Esperance, Albany and Margaret River which are surrounded by vast stretches of pristine coastline and beachfront national parks. Beach fishing in the area is regarded as some of the best in Australia.

Northern Australia attracts anglers from all over the world who hope to snare the mighty barramundi. Broome and Darwin are the largest population centres in the area and make a terrific base for a wild and unforgettable fishing holiday.
