Relaxing Hepburn Springs Getaways
Set in the middle of Victoria's famous spa country and an easy 90-minute drive from Melbourne, Hepburn Springs is a gorgeous mountain hamlet surrounded by pristine forests and home to rejuvenating natural mineral springs. The perfect retreat for a relaxing weekend away or longer-term getaway, Hepburn Springs offers a range of fantastic holiday accommodation options to suit every visitor.
The natural mineral springs are the biggest attraction of the town and can be experienced in many different ways. Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve is to the north of town and features pleasant gardens, picnic areas and walking trails. Several mineral springs are contained within the reserve, including Locarno,Sulphur, Soda and Wyuna springs, which can be hand-pumped and enjoyed straight from the tap. A track leads up to Jacksons Lookout Tower, where visitors can enjoy sweeping vistas of the town and surrounding ranges.
The springs are also the basis for a large local spa, wellbeing and beauty therapy industry. The Hepburn Bathhouse and Spa is one of the area's original facilities and continues to provide a host of treatments such as hydrotherapy, massage and beauty therapies. Many other establishments throughout the area offer a range of wellbeing procedures, with spas offering mineral baths, saunas, body wraps, massages and beauty treatments all found throughout the Hepburn Springs area.
The stunning countryside surrounding Hepburn Springs is another major drawcard. Hepburn Regional Park is a large reserve best known for its colourful wildflowers, which bloom into life during spring. The Tipperary Walking Track links Daylesford Lake with Hepburn Springs and passes a number of scenic areas. The Blowhole is an artificial tunnel built by goldminers designed to direct the waters of Sailors Creek on an alternate course allowing the former creek bed to be mined for gold. It is an impressive sight when the creek is at maximum capacity and is well worth the hike up into the ranges.
Hepburn Springs is also known for its heritage buildings and original miner's cottages. Large numbers of Swiss and Italian migrants settled in the area during the goldrush and their influence remains today, with many examples of European architecture and gardens in evidence in the town's centre. Some delightful shops, restaurants and cafes also operate along the town's main street. Holiday accommodation in the area includes an excellent range of holiday cottages, bungalows and houses that make a terrific base for an extended stay in the region. Nearby Daylesford is the largest centre and also has some excellent holiday rental properties.
Hepburn Springs is a one and a half hour drive from Melbourne via the Western Freeway and Ballan Daylesford Road. V/Line rail services from Melbourne stop in nearby Woodend and Ballarat, with connecting bus services available to Hepburn Springs.
