Lake Cudgeon is shallow enough to take the kids canoeing or fishing. There are many casual cafes to choose from for a morning coffee or afternoon snack. For something fun and different, take the kids to Tropical Fruit World only 15 minutes away, where the family can learn about and of course taste the produce of Australia. For a relaxing afternoon travel up to Tweed Heads and take a serene cruise down the river and enjoy the heritage rainforest scenery. History of Cabarita Beach

This beachside towns original name was Bogangar, an Aboriginal word meaning 'place of many pippies', which refers to the ancient ceremonial shell middens in the area. The name Cabarita Beach was developed after a housing project was established in the area in the 1960s. The natural beauty of the area has been fully preserved and Cabarita Beach is still a quiet and relaxing beachside getaway.

The nearest airport is Coolangatta airport which will put you only 20 mins drive away from Cabarita Beach. From Brisbane the drive takes less than 2 hours and Ballina airport is around an hour away. There are no direct rail routes into Cabarita Beach but there is a train station in the nearby Murwillumbah.
