History of Crystal Creek
Crystal Creek was first settled by Europeans searching for Red Cedar in the mid 19th Century and was named for the semi precious stones found in the creek that runs through the area.
Crystal Creek is considered one of the most picturesque areas in the Tweed, with spectacular views from Mt Warning, a world-heritage listed National Park and its said the spot where the dawn sun first touches Eastern Australia, to the Springbrook Range.
Whilst other areas in the Tweed Shire may be beautiful, Crystal Creek has the added advantage of being only ten minutes drive from the centre of Murwillumbah seat of the Tweed Council and, although not as large as the townships of South Tweed and Tweed Heads, it is the heart of the Tweed region.
Nowadays Crystal Creek is well known for the range of tourist accommodation from a 4WD park with campsites to the multi Tourism Award winning Hillcrest Retreat, the only AAAT 5 Star Rated private retreat in the Tweed region.

Murwillumbah is a quaint shopping area with a range of speciality shops and boutiques, pavement cafes and pubs as well as a large Coles supermarket located in Sunnyside Mall.
For serious shopping head to South Tweed and Tweed Heads, both of which have major shopping malls. Tweed South also offers a range of large home renovations and homewares stores such as Bunnings located in Machinery Drive.

A range of different cuisines reflect the diverse population of the Murwillumbah/Tweed area. The coastal town of Kingscliff tempts tourists and locals alike with a range of beach-side cafes and restaurants. Crystal Creek is a locality not a town so there are no eateries there currently, although Chillingham (5 mins from Upper Crystal Creek Road) does have a general store where you can buy drinks and hamburgers made to order.
