Things to do in Forster
Surrounded by lakes and beaches, popular activities in and around Forster include swimming, surfing, sailing and fishing. You can hire a boat and tour the great lakes, spot dolphins, explore the nearby rainforests on horseback or head for one of the areas 18 hole golf courses. Holiday apartments are plentiful as well as lakeside holiday cottages.
History of Forster
Italian migrants helped to develop Forster's fishing industry. Tuncurry used to be North Foster and the two were considered a single town but Tuncurry, the local Aboriginal word for many fish triumphed and now the two are classed as twin towns.
Landmark in Forster
The Forster-Tuncurry area has a number of beaches including The Bar at the southern end of Nine Mile Beach, Forster Beach at the end of Beach Street and One Mile Beach which is good for surfing. The Tanks is an unusual rock formation which provides a protected, family friendly swimming area.
Bennetts Head has a lookout with great views and a paved walkway. At the northerly point of Booti Booti National Park is Cape Hawke with stunning headland views. Further afield, Blueys Beach is popular with surfers and Smiths Lake offers family friendly water activities including boat hire.

Forster's main shopping area is the Forster Shopping Village and there is also another shopping area at Tuncurry just over the bridge. Forster also has an Art and Craft Centre.
