History of Lemon Tree Passage
The small town of Lemon Tree Passage was officially subdivided in 1962. The population has grown from only 30 residents in 1931, to over 2400 in 2009. One theory concerning the name of the suburb is that early settlers discovered a mysterious crop of lemon trees in the area. Another idea is that the native cheesebush plant was mistaken for a lemon tree because of its similar appearance.

Lemon Tree Passage Marina is known in the area for its chilled out atmosphere and quaint collection of boats, shops and cafes. Tanilba House is a living museum dedicated to presenting life as it was in the 19th Century. The house was built for Lieutenant Caswell in the 1830s, and has been meticulously preserved. The museum is open on Wednesdays and weekends.
