Things to do in Lennox Head

Swimming, surfing, fishing and sunbathing are great on Seven Mile Beach. Boulders, Flat Rock and Angels beaches also offer terrific swimming and surfing options. The secluded beaches of Brays, Kings and Tallows beaches sit amidst the beauty of Broken Head Nature Reserve and are ideal for relaxing on. Tranquil picnic spots line the shores of Lake Ainsworth and kids can take to the calm waters. The main street of Lennox Head is home to great shops and some terrific restaurants and cafes. The popular nearby holiday town of Ballina contains great beaches, an attractive river and a busy shopping and dining precinct. To the north of Lennox Head, Byron Bay remains an extremely popular holiday destination and is home to attractions such as Cape Byron, Wategos Beach and The Pass.

History of Lennox Head

Lennox Head was originally inhabited by the Bundjalung Aboriginal people. European settlement began in the 1860s when James Ainsworth took up a land grant close to the lake that now bears his name. Farmers and timber gatherers moved into the area and the town was subdivided in 1922. Lennox Head's beautiful beach, lake and magnificent coastal scenery attracted visitors from an early stage and today, the town remains primarily concerned with the tourism industry.

Landmark in Lennox Head

Lennox Point is an imposing headland featuring spectacular views of the ocean and Seven Mile Beach. Beaches in the area such as Boulders, Flat Rock, Angels and Shellys contain pristine coastal landscapes and attract many visitors. Parks and reserves close to Lennox Head such as Broken Head Nature Reserve, Arakwal National Park and Bundjalung National Park offer picturesque coastal environments, secluded beaches and amazing wildlife. Lennox Head sits between the towns of Ballina and Byron Bay forming one of the country's favourite holiday areas.

Shopping in Lennox Head

Ballina Street houses a supermarket, pharmacy, newsagency, post office and specialty stores. Nearby Ballina is home to a busy shopping precinct, with Ballina Central and Ballina Fair the two main shopping malls. The popular Lennox Head markets are held twice a month, next to Lake Ainsworth.

Lennox Head has a delightful restaurant and cafe scene with most eateries to be found along Ballina Street. Nearby Ballina offers restaurants, cafes and takeaway shops including some popular alfresco eateries with views over the Richmond River. Up the road, Byron Bay is known for it fine-diners and organic restaurants and cafes.

Sports & Fitness in Lennox Head

Seven Mile Beach is a long stretch of sand ideal for swimming, surfing and fishing. Lennox Point, at the southern end of the beach, is considered one of the best surf breaks on the east coast and lures surfers from all over the world. Boulders, Flat Rock and Angels beaches sit just to the south of Lennox and contain popular surfing, swimming and fishing locations. Lake Ainsworth is also a great spot for a dip.

Lennox Head is accessible from Sydney and Brisbane via the Pacific Highway. Ballina/Byron Gateway Airport is nearby and is served by flights from Sydney and Melbourne. Coach services also operate throughout the region.
