Things to do in Pacific Palms
Sandwiched between Wallis and Smiths Lakes and the ocean, Pacific Palms is a great place to throw in a line, head for the surf, take a swim or hire a boat. A number of small unspoiled settlements make up this holiday area which is dotted with beautiful headlands, rainforest pockets, coastal swamps, sand dunes, and lighthouses.
Surf the breaks at Blueys, Boomerang, Celito, Sandbar or Seven Mile beach and you are more than likely to have them to yourself. Swimming in crystal clear water year round is a highlight on any weekend break or longer stay.
Fishing includes lake and beach fishing with rock fishing a specialty on the headlands. The Booti Booti National Park that surrounds Pacific Palms has some of the best coastal bushwalks in the region with diverse vegetation including sclerophyll forests to palm studded rainforests leading down to the sands of the beaches.
Markets include Farmers markets, Forster, Pacific Palms and Tuncurry markets and are held regularly each month. Shopping for those beachside bargains at the markets or at the retail shops is a pleasure with none of the city stress of crowds and parking. Pacific Palms remains unspoilt with no high-rise and reflects a time when a beachside holiday was just you, friends and family and your own private holiday beach house rental, very relaxed.
History of Pacific Palms
The European history of the area started in 1816 when two ships were wrecked off Cape Hawke.
The next visitor was John Oxley in 1818 who spent a night at Boomerang Beach but the first European settlers came in 1854 for the timber and the fishing and later the farming.
Tourism began in the 1950s boosted by the local sand-mining industry but development has been slow
Landmark in Pacific Palms
Pacific Palm's beachside communities include Seven Mile Beach, Blueys Beach, Boomerang Beach, Elizabeth Beach, Shelleys Beach, Sandbar and Seal Rocks. Seal Rocks has excellent surfing and fishing and a lighthouse. Smiths Lake is a bushy lakeside village with a boatshed caf where boats can be hired. Sandbar separates Smiths Lake from the ocean and has a caravan park, camping, boat hire, great fishing and bushwalking. Booti Booti National Park is found on the spit separating Wallis Lake from the ocean between Shellys Beach and Forster.
Blueys Beach headland toward Seal Rocks is one of the most photographed coastal scenes in Australia and both Blueys and Boomerang Beaches are renown as some of the best unspoilt and scenic beaches on the east coast.
Shopping in Pacific Palms
For everyday goods, there are shops at Boomerang Beach, Blueys Beach, Macwood Road and Smiths Lake. For larger shopping centres Forster/Tuncurry is 20 minutes away. A market is held on the last Sunday of each month at the Community Centre in Pacific Palms.
In the heart of Forster with all the large chain supermarkets, caf/restaurants and eateries as well as markets held on selected weekends each month.
Restaurants & Cafes in Pacific Palms
There are lots of dining options in the Pacific Palms area including the Smiths Lake Bowling Club and Pacific Palms Recreation Club for relaxed dining, and waterside cafes and takeaways. Seafood, including local oysters, can also be bought at wholesale prices at the local fishing cooperatives.
Seafood is an obvious choice being close to the fishing port of Tuncurry but restaurants in the area cater to a variety including caf style contemporary food, pizzas, and upmarket dining.
A short drive will take you to Forster offering a larger variety with Mexican, Italian and Asian to name a few and all the chain restaurants are there including Hoggs Breath.
Across the bridge to Tuncurry the fishermans co-op on the waterfront is perfect and reasonable for that casual seafood lunch.
Sports & Fitness in Pacific Palms
Fishing, swimming and surfing are popular pastimes and Pacific Palms has its own tennis court and golf courses.
Pacific Palms includes the Recky Club on Wallis Lake waterfront, and the Pacific Palms Bowling club also has a restaurant and live entertainment each week.
Transport in Pacific Palms
A local coach service to Newcastle and Sydney operates in Pacific Palms. Great Lakes Coaches travel to and from Forster and Sydney several times a day.

Pacific Palms is 300km north of Sydney. Sydney is only a 3 hour drive away with Newcastle and the airport, about 2 hours drive. There are regular coach services between Sydney, Newcastle and Pacific Palms.

The Nearest hospitals are Cape Hawke Community Private Hospital at Forster and the Manning Base Hospital at Taree. There are primary schools at Pacific Palms, Bungwahl, Forster and Tuncurry and the nearest high school is in Forster.
Forster has a small hospital facility but Taree or Newcastle cater to the hospital needs for people staying and living in the Pacific Palms area.
