History of Wentworth Falls
The town was originally called Weatherboard and then Jamison's Valley, but was renamed Wentworth Falls in 1879 after the nearby Wentworth Falls waterfalls that were named after William Charles Wentworth who together with Lawson and Blaxland discovered a route across the Blue Mountains in 1813.
Landmark in Wentworth Falls
The town is surrounded by the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park. Wentworth Falls Lake has safe swimming and is fed by the large waterfall after which the town is named. Princes Rock Lookout offers stunning views of Wentworth Falls, Jamison Valley and Kings Tableland. Kings Table is an ancient Aboriginal site and Kings Tableland has great views of Jamison Valley and an Astronomical Observatory that opens on the weekend. Empress Lookout offers more mountain views and the Valley of the Waters Nature Track is a challenging local walk. The historic Grand View Hotel was built during the tourism boom in the 1880s and Yester Grange, no longer open to the public, is a Victorian country house built in 1890. Wentworth Falls Autumn Festival is held in April.
